Sculpture

For me, working in 3D just makes sense. An object can evolve a ‘life’, a presence, and that is exciting for me. I feel that a piece has something if it has developed character. Integrity is important: the materials I use, and their relationships to each other all need to work. Nothing must be forced or unnatural in the context of the way I look at the world. I am producing work that is an outward extension of my thoughts and feelings.

I am interested in the human condition, as it relates to my personal life experiences, and in work that projects an emotive quality and allows the viewer to find their own reading.

Making maquette-scale work is an opportunity to create something relatively quickly, with the challenge of imbuing each piece with something ‘other’. Small scale works can be freer without the weight of expectation larger work brings.
